Program Description
A 36 credit program that prepares teachers to meet the challenges of diverse learners in 21st-century classrooms in a variety of instructional settings. Drew’s program leads to a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with teacher certification in elementary (K-6) or secondary education (content specialty). Teacher candidates can pursue an additional endorsement in either program or program.
Teacher candidates in the MAT learn to apply their interdisciplinary knowledge and pedagogical competencies to effectively educate all students and meet their academic, social and developmental needs. Students merge theory and practice through the study of human development, pedagogy and educational policy. Teacher candidates engage in a wide range of classroom experiences in urban and suburban settings and complete the program with a one-year clinical internship.
Requisites
Elementary Education (36 to 42 credits)

course - Methods of Teaching and Assessment for Elementary Mathematics and Science
course - Methods of Teaching and Assessment for Elementary Language Arts, Social Studies, and Art
II. Technology in Education (3 credits)
Complete 3 credits, selected from the following:
course - Integrating Technology in Content Areas OR course - Employing Educational Technologies
course - Developing Digital and Media Literacies
course - Innovation in Education
course - Contemporary Literacy Instruction
course - Contemporary Issues in Education
III. Elective (3 credits)
Complete 3 credits, taken from existing EDUC or graduate-level courses with approval by advisor.
Note: Students interested in dual certification with an Endorsement in TOSD or ESL are encouraged to select one of the required courses for those programs as their elective.
IV. Clinical Field Experience (4 courses)
All fieldwork is tied to coursework and documented on the transcript.
