Provides a theoretical understanding of literacy development from birth through grade six with specific attention to emergent and early literacy and the spiraling of literacy developing in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Covers how to assess literacy skills and infuse literacy instruction into all content-areas with a focus on selecting materials and meeting the needs of diverse learners. Field experience connected to coursework.
