Course Description

Focuses on the literature examining the relationship between Europe and the rest of the World. Exposes students to numerous historical approaches over a variety of subjects and time periods concerning European Empire, colonization, and decolonization. The goal is to understand the various methodologies historians use to study the past. Focuses on those historical works that have been critical to the collective understanding and have driven the historiographical conversation among historians. Examines texts, both "old" and "new," to understand how historians have researched, thought about, and discussed the most salient issues concerning Europe. Students will have an opportunity to complete a final historiographical paper. Constitutes as major preparation for the capstone essays in European history, in conjunction with one other Europe historiography course.
