Course Description

Public finance lies at the intersection of government, business and nonprofit activities. Students are offered the opportunity to learn: (a) how public finance facilitates capital investment in public infrastructure; (b) the historical context and present-day importance of infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth; and (c) unique features of the municipal bond market as an asset class in the capital markets. Municipal bonds, issued by general governmental and special purpose entities to fund transportation, higher education, water, power and healthcare facilities, will be studied as to their relative credit worthiness, their vital role in stimulating infrastructure development and capital investment, the process by which bond issues come to market and why and how they are purchased by investors.
