Develops foundational knowledge about disability categories identified in Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and related topics in the field of special education, including autism, transition planning, universal design for learning, and high-leverage practices. With a focus on advocacy as the foundation for successful transitions across ages, course content will include the philosophical and practical applications of valuing students’ abilities and diversity and collaborating with families, educators, and community agencies to ensure that every child succeeds in school and beyond.
